Become A Council 5 On-Call Volunteer!

We know you fly high-time. We know you have family, friends and other responsibilities. And we know your days off are sacred.

That said, we also know that since you took the time to click the link that brought you here, you probably have some interest in helping out your fellow JFK Council 5 members by becoming a Council 5 On-Call Volunteer!

So, what exactly is an On-Call Volunteer?

A Council 5 On-Call Volunteer is any JFK-based flight attendant that has some extra time during their day off to be telephone-available to other JFK-based flight attendants who may have questions or need information about union-company-related matters.

But I'm really not "union-savvy" enough to answer questions!

You'd be surprised. Besides, we don't expect you, or any volunteer for that matter, to be 100% versed in the comings and goings of AFA policy and procedures. In fact, we encourage you to contact your local AFA officers in the event you cannot answer a question or provide information accurately. There's always someone around to help you if you need it.

So why would I be a good candidate for an On-Call Volunteer?

Well, quite frankly, because you care. "The Union" is not just the president, the vice-president, the committee members or the secretary. The union is you. It's all of us together helping to make our careers better. The fact that you're reading this right now should tell you that you want to make a difference.

So how does it all work?

Well, start by completing the contact information form below. This will add you to our Council 5 On-Call Volunteer List. Each month you'll receive several emails from us reminding you to reserve the day or days you would like to be on-call for the next month. The Council 5 On-Call Scheduling form is easy to use. Once you've reserved your days, they will appear on the Council 5 On-Call Calendar with your name. Then, on the days you're on-call, just relax and take whatever phone calls come in from members (don't worry, you won't get overwhelmed) and help them as best you can. If you can't answer a question you can always contact someone who can.
