We try to address the most common problems and questions regarding our website in this section, however, if you have a specific technical question that needs special attention, please email the Webmaster.
Website Accessibility
Approximately 80% of The Council 5 Website is accessible to the general public. Our secured areas are only accessible by members who register a User Account and only United Airlines flight attendants are eligible to register an account.
A username and password are required to access all secured areas of our site and these are created during the account registration process.
• Manage Your Current Council 5 User Account
How To Register A New Council 5 User Account
- Go to the Registration page. We require employee verification at this point to "weed-out" general website visitors from submitting an application that will only be rejected later.
- Answer the simple verification question. This answer should be known by all United flight attendants. You do not enter your Unimatic username or password here. Just read the question, think about it, then answer the question. You'll know this!
- Complete the form. After successfully answering the verification question, you will be taken to the registration form. Complete the form and click 'Submit Registration.'
Allowing Pop-Up Windows
To enhance the ease-of-use for our website visitors, this site uses pop-up windows extensively. Pop-up windows allow for pertinent information to be displayed to a user without the need to take them away from the page they are already on.
Please allow for pop-ups when viewing our site by making the appropriate setting in Internet Explorer (versions 6.0 and higher):
- Click Tools, then Pop-up Blocker, then Pop-up Blocker Settings
- In "The Address of Web site to allow" space, enter:
www.council5.org- Click Add, then Close.
In AOL, do the following:
- At the bottom-right of your browser window there's a bar that either says, "Allowing This Site," or "Blocking Pop-Ups" depending on your current setting. If it currently says, "Allowing This Site," you're all set. Pop-ups are being allowed.
- If it says, "Blocking Pop-Ups," click the bar, then click "Pop-Up Control Preferences."
- In the resulting window on the Web Pop-Ups tab, make sure "Allow Web Pop-Ups" is selected, then enter www.council5.org and click Add.
- Click Save to close the window.
Newer Browsers Mean Better Performance
The two most popular mainstream Internet browsers used today are Microsoft's Internet Explorer and Netscape, both having versions ranging from 2.0 to 8.0. The Council 5 Website has been optimized for use with Microsoft Internet Explorer (MSIE) versions 5.0 and higher. The site may not operate properly using Netscape or any version of Internet Explorer for the Mac.
Upgrade your Browser via Download!
If you are using Internet Explorer versions 3.0, 4.0, 5.0 or 5.5, upgrade to version 6.0. Why? This new version is easier to use, and provides the necessary components to view all the elements of the Internet's web pages.
If you are using Internet Explorer version 6.0, upgrade to version 7.0.
If you are using Netscape, upgrade to version 8.1.
How do I know what version I have?
Right now, click on HELP in the drop-down menu of your browser. Choose ABOUT. It will show what version you are using. The above downloads may take quite a while to go from their computer to yours, depending on your modem speed. If you have a DSL, cable or T-1 connection, this download time is drastically reduced. The files are very large and require that you have enough space available on your computer's hard drive.
You do have another option: Order a CD of Your Favorite Browser:
Order the latest Microsoft Internet Explorer CD
(Free + applicable sales tax and shipping)
Order Netscape 8.1 on CD
(From $4.95 + applicable sales tax and shipping)The CD route is by far the easiest, however, you'll have to wait 7-10 days for delivery, and shell out seven bucks.
In the long run, though, it's always good to have the CD around in case you need to re-install the browser or install it on another computer.
